PLACES TO VISIT IN VIETNAM – HUE CITADEL
Hue Citadel is the political, cultural and economy of Nguyen Dynasty for 140 years from 1805 to 1945 in Vietnam. Hue Citadel is located right in front of Perfume River and there are a lot of construction sites in Hue Citadel until today and Hue Citadel has been a famous place for both Vietnamese and foreign travelers who traveling to Vietnam. Hue Citadel as built by Gia Long Kinh, the first king of Nguyen Dynasty, in 1805 and totally done by Minh Mang Kinh in 1832. At the beginning of Nguyen Dynasty, Hue Citadel has been considered as the center of the South of Vietnam. Hue Citadel has both traditional Vietnamese and western architects. These two styles perfectly combined to each other that leave Hue Citadel wonderful houses, temples, pagodas which make Hue Citadel to be one of the most wonderful places to visit in Vietnam. Hue Citadel has three layers of walls which used as the protections. When becoming the king, Gia Long Kinh looked for the new location to build the new citadel and Gia Long Kinh chose the land at the North of Perfume River in Hue. In front of Hue Citadel is Ngu Binh Mountain which is considered as the protection for the citadel and prevent bad spirits. There are two small islands at the two sides which are recognized as Dragon and Tiger which show the power of the Nguyen Dynasty. Right in the front of Hue Citadel is Perfume River, bends as the cross-arrow which brings good energy to Citadel in Hue. In the history of Vietnam till 1945, the citadel in Hue is the biggest as well as the most massive construction side. Millions of tones of rocks, workers, wood… were used to build the citadel in Hue in 30 years.
Hue Citadel has an area of 520 hectares with the main gate facing to the South. All the houses, temples, pagodas, palaces in the citadel in Hue face the South with the meaning the Kings look to the South to rule the country and his people. The wall of Hue Citadel is about 10 kilometer long with protection towers. At first the walls in citadel in Hue was built by soil and clay, and until the time Gia Long King ruled the country, the walls of Hue Citadel was built by bricks. Outside the layers of wall is the cannels system which used as protection as well as transportation. The cannel system in citadel in Hue is about 7 kilometer long. There are ten gates in the citadel in Hue; the main gate faces the flag tower which is constructed right in front of Hue Citadel.
While travelers come to Hue Citadel – the places to visit in Vietnam, they will visit the main sites which are the second layer of the citadel in Hue. This is also the place where the Kings and Royal families lived and worked. This is also the place where alters were put to worship Nguyen Kings and Emperors. Hue Citadel has great values of culture, history as well as architect which make Hue become one of the most wonderful places to visit in Vietnam.
