PLACES TO VISIT IN VIETNAM – TU DUC TOMB

Tu Duc Tomb is a complex of architecture, temples, houses, palaces which owns wonderful Traditional Vietnamese styles and designs. Tu Duc Tomb is un Thuong Ba Village, Xuan Thuy District, Hue City in center of Vietnam. Tu Duc Tomb is about 7 kilometer from center of Hue City. When it was started building, the Tomb of Tu Duc King was named Van Nien Co, then the Tomb of Tu Duc King was changed to Khiem Cung. After Tu Duc King died, this was named Khiem Lang. Tu Duc Tomb has amazing architecture with finest designs and every constructions site were carefully made in details.

Tu Duc King has thought of building his own tomb when he was alive. As Tu Duc King was good at poems, therefore, Tu Duc King chose the place to build the tomb where suited his reputation the best. The location Tu Duc King chose to build his tomb was a small valley which owns wonderful harmony of nature, landscapes and great Chi. When the tomb was started, Tu Duc King named it as Van Nien Co which reflex his wish of lasting forever. In order to get the money to build his own tomb, Tu Duc King has raised the tax; in addition, the hard work and torture which leaded to the overthrow and chaotic in 1866. After this, Tu Duc King had changed the name of his own tomb to Khiem Cung and Tu Duc King died 10 years after.
There are totally 50 construction sites in Tu Duc Tomb which are located on the tow side of the tomb of Tu Duc King. All these houses, places, temples and alters got the name of Khiem Cung. The link ways and paths inside Tomb of Tu Duc are made of bricks which were brought over from Bat Trang Pottery village, close to Hanoi. After the main gate is the alter praying to the mountain God which was used to be the place for Tu Duc King relax and enjoy the natural view. A lake which is called Luu Khiem with two palaces are at two sides used for Tu Duc King to enjoy the view. In the middle of Tu Duc Tomb is working and resting for the king. On the left is Luong Khiem temple which is used to pray to the parents of Tu Duc Kings. On the right is On Khiem Palace where Tu Duc King’s belongings were stored. There is also a theater which is called Minh Khiem. The theater is where Tu Duc King enjoyed music and traditional songs and this is the oldest traditional theater in Vietnam until today. At the back of Tu Duc Tomb is where Tu Duc King was buried. Even Tu Duc King has 103 wives but Tu Duc King had no son to carry his crow.

Tu Duc King was born on 22th September 1829 and died on 19th July 1883. Tu Duc was the fourth king of Nguyen Dynasty. The real name of Tu Duc King is Nguyen Phuc Hong Nham and Tu Duc King is the one who ruled the country for the longest period from 1847 to 1883. Tu Duc King was the second son of Thieu Tri King. As his brother, Nguyen Phuc Hong Bao was just interested in gambling, Tuc Duc was pointed to be the king when he was 19 years old. Tu Duc Kinh did not want to have any trading with westerners. One American trading boat came to Da Nang for business but it was rejected by Tu Duc Kinh. Until Vietnam was conquered by French, Tu Duc King has changed the policy to increase trading for foreign countries but go no result. Tu Duc King was the one who had the most knowledge and highly appreciate Confucius, choosing the talents to manage the country.
